This week Houstonist is trying something new to keep you updated on the city's growing internet scene. Every weekend, we'll feature some of our favorite posts from local blogs the past week. So, without further ado, here's what Houstonians have been up to:
Nothing's better than food in Houston - uh, Food in Houston. This week featured a post about what could be the death of Houston's Vietnamtown. A shopping center at 2800 Milam, the heart of Vietnamtown, is set to be demolished. Businesses that we will be losing include Le Bec Fin, The Original Givrals, Pho Tau Bay, and Hoa Binh Supermarket. According to this post, the new apartments that have been springing up all over Midtown mean a phasing out of independently-owned Vietnamese restaurants and shops to make way for new construction. Food in Houston worries that the demise of Vietnamtown is near, but there's hope to be found in the thriving Chinatown and Little Saigon in southwest Houston.
>> The light rail is always a hot topic, and you'd be hard-pressed to find someone that knows more about it than Christof Spieler. As part of a series of posts concerning the Uline, he explores options for Gulfton.
>> SXSW may be happening in Austin, but according to Houston Calling, there are a number of local Houston bands on the list.
>> While everyone else in the world is talking about Anna Nicole Smith, Houston's Clear Thinkers mourned the death of Lamar Muse, Houstonian and one of the original founders of Southwest Airlines.
>> We like to read (really!), and we love the library. But Katya of Metroblogging Houston learned this week that the library also offers audiobooks for check-out. Who knew?
