Good morning, Houston. Are you running around on your wife/husband/significant other? Better look out: Valentine's Day is prime time for catching cheaters. The reason? If you have two or three (or six or seven) boy/girlfriends, you're likely going to need to see all of 'em on the 14th — so be careful. Or, y'know, just stick with the monogamy thing.
>> The doctor is ... in?: Eric Scheffey, one of the most-sued doctors in Harris County, had some good news yesterday when prosecutors dropped charges of practicing medicine without a license. Scheffey was accused of seeing patients after he had been ordered to stop practicing medicine, but his patients said they were just getting referrals. Now Scheffey, who has had 78 malpractice suits and is accused of performing 29 unnecessary surgeries during his career, says he's going to try to get his medical license back. "It's a damn shame that Eric Scheffey isn't a doctor anymore," attorney Dick DeGuerin said.
>> Now you know it's serious: Southwest Airlines raised its one-way fares by $10 on flights of more than 1,000 miles and $3 on shorter flights Friday, opening the door for other airlines to do the same. The reason, officials said, was increased fuel cost: "It's still about fuel. [Oil] prices remain high, and we expect them to stay high. We have to offset our fuel bill," Southwest spokeswoman Paula Berg said. Given Southwest's reluctance to increase fares, other carriers feel free to follow suit: This time, American, United, Northwest, Continental and others raised their fares after Southwest's announcement.
>> More charges for suspected Baytown rapist: Prosecutors in Baytown have charged 17-year-old Keith Chester Hill with six crimes — three counts of aggravated robbery, two counts of aggravated kidnapping and one count of sexual assault — in connection with two rapes of young men last year. Officials say Hill has confessed to the cases, saying he stalked some of the victims for days before the attacks; even more charges are expected soon.
>> Today's weather: This morning's dense fog will break up soon, giving way to what should be a nice day: Expect partly cloudy skies and a high around 60 this afternoon. Tonight is when things will get a lot cooler — we should have a low around 35 leading into a pretty cool middle of the week.
