  • If you're interested in volunteering, Food Not Bombs Houston is always looking for earnest people to help hand out food to to the homeless in front of city hall. Not only is this a great way to spend Valentine's Day, it's a great way to spend any Monday, Wednesday, or Friday evening.
  • If all the Valentine's Day buzz has made you forget that February is also Black History Month, have no fear. Shrine Bookstore & Cultural Center is playing black history films throughout the month, including tonight at 5:30.
  • Free is one of our favorite words. The fabulous Shepherd School of Music at Rice University is a hotbed for free classical music, and tonight is no exception. This evening's concert, beginning at 8pm, will feature the New York Music Ensemble.
  • Still not sure what you want to do tonight? Check for more events after the jump.

  • While we're on the subject of music, you could also check out Impulse Solo Recital #1 of the Impulse Artist Series. Held at Wade Wilson Art, it begins at 7:30 and will show case the talents of American pianist Jessica Osborne.
  • If you're more interested in watching other people dance than going dancing yourself, you can try the delicious food and traditional flamenco dancers at Rioja Restaurant tonight. Sexy.
  • The Houston Public Library is just the kind of Valentine you want - reliable, intelligent, and willing to share. There are tons of V-Day festivities for readers of all ages going on at branches all over the city. Included: Valentine-themed storytime and crafts, and parties.
  • The MFAH, perfect for singles and couples who can keep the PDA to a minimum, is open until 5pm and is currently housing several hot exhibits.
