So, kids — if you really want to freak everybody out at school, why not take a fake grenade on campus? It worked for a fifth-grader at Adam Elementary School yesterday; he came to school toting a replica grenade and an empty .50-caliber bullet casing and showed them off to fellow students. The show-and-tell unnerved at least one kid, who went and told officials what was going on.
Turns out the student got the grenade from an army surplus store, but it's not clear where the bullet casing came from. The school principal called the police, but charges weren't filed because it's not against the law to have a fake grenade. However, it is against Cy-Fair ISD policy to have one, so the boy was sent to alternative school, where he'll learn a thing or two about fitting in.
Surprisingly — or maybe not — this is the second time in the last six months that an elementary school student in the area has brought a grenade to school: In October, a third-grader at Kate Bell Elementary got in trouble for doing exactly the same thing (well, minus the shell casing); he was also sent to alternative school.
