Brr!

021607_ice.jpgYep, it sure is cold this morning — at least for Houston, and frankly, that's enough for us. The temperature hit 28 degrees downtown overnight, tying the record set in 1951, but other spots broke the record: Bush Intercontinental Airport with a low of 27, Conroe and Sugar Land with lows of 23 and Brenham with a low of 19. We heard about one traffic accident this morning that was blamed on ice, but we're not sure what caused the ice to form. Maybe someone dropped a Big Gulp on the freeway.

Because there was no ice and the temperatures actually weren't low enough to freeze you solid when you stepped out the door, there's not much weather-related news other than the requisite "Wow, it's cold" reactions that we get around here anytime the mercury dips below 70. Some interesting stats, though: According to KPRC, the overnight lows weren't only the coldest so far this winter, but also the coldest we've had in five years. The good news is that things should warm up nicely later this morning, leading to an afternoon high around 50 with lots of sun.

As for the long-range forecast, it looks pretty good: generally, highs in the 60s or low 70s, lows in the 40s and little chance of rain for the next two weeks. We'll take that.
