Morning Roundup: All stocked up on crazy edition

Good morning, Houston. Has it been a crazy week for you? It kind of has for us — but really, we got nothing compared with what happened in the custody hearing for Anna Nicole Smith's body and daughter in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., yesterday. By all accounts, it was a circus (what else would you expect?), and Judge Larry Seidlin did his best to keep it all under control. Seidlin said Smith's body will remain on ice until further notice and ordered a new DNA test: "When we bury her, I want it to be forever," he said. Optimistic? We'll see.

>> So answering C for every question won't work?: Applicants for U.S. citizenship in San Antonio and nine other cities began taking a revised citizenship test Thursday that includes civics questions and new reading and writing sections. The point of the revised test: to challenge would-be citizens a little more on their knowledge of geography, political names and constitutional concepts. One of the questions concerned the inalienable rights in the Declaration of Independence — they're life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, a trio British immigrant Grahame Jones wasn't familiar with. "I'm not sure if they're important things to know," Jones said. "But as a courtesy to the citizenship office, it does prove you're serious about becoming a U.S. citizen." (Test yourself with a selection of sample questions — but don't blame us if you get deported.)

>> Charges dropped against TSU employee: Prosecutors on Thursday dismissed charges against Frederick Holts, Texas Southern's senior safety system engineer, who was one of the people indicted along with ex-President Priscilla Slade. Holts faced a third-degree felony charge for allegedly hiding the purchase of a $61,000 security system for Slade's home — reportedly an unauthorized expense. But his attorney, Wendle Van Smith, said Holts was only doing his job when he installed the system: "He should never have been charged," Smith said.

>> CityCentre development shaping up: Some details about CityCentre, the $500 million development planned for the former Town & Country Mall site, were released yesterday. The project will feature 500,000 square feet of office space, a luxury hotel, condos, apartments and 400,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space with tenants including RA Sushi,Eddie V's and Studio Movie Grill; Lifetime Fitness will also open a three-story fitness center, its first urban-concept location, there. Construction on CityCentre began last month.

>> Today's weather: So, let's talk about cold, eh? This morning was one of the coldest of this winter — a low around 27, they say — but the good news is that we're in for a warm-up over the next few days. Today should be chilly, but beautiful, with clear skies and a high around 50; tonight, it'll remain clear and we should see temperatures drop to 40. This weekend, look for more sun and highs between 60 and 65 Saturday and Sunday (Saturday will be slightly warmer). If you're not a fan of the cold, hang in there: It'll be summer soon enough.

For now, keep toasty with some more of this morning's news ...
