Thanks for your responses to the upcoming pub crawl. Lots of you are on the hook and are ready to raise a glass and grab some schwag. But, a few of you have emailed or commented saying that you can't make it to the launch from Flying Saucer. You've been asking, "What's the next bar?" or "What's the route?"
We ain't spillin' it. We were planning to use a flare gun to guide the group to the next venue until we found out that flares were too expensive and a bit too dangerous according the anti-fun patrol. Instead we'll update you on the fly via Dodgeball.
Dodgeball, a Google joint, is a mobile social networking service available in 22 cities, including Houston, Austin & Dallas. It's similar to MySpace, Friendster, Orkut, LinkedIn, etcetera in that you create your own network of contacts based on folks that you know or would like to know. Dodgeball takes things a step further by allowing users to broadcast their location to their network of friends on the fly via text messaging.
For example, Houstonist is hosting the LRPC on Friday, March 2nd. We'll check in with our network by texting "@ Flying Saucer" to DODGE (36343). Our network will receive text messages saying something like "Your friend Houstonist is at Flying Saucer." We'll do the same thing as we head to the next location. It's just that easy.
Don't miss the train. Go ahead and create an account. It's simple, and if you already have a Gmail account, then you're practically done. Add Houstonist by searching on jason (at) houstonist (dot) com.
