Here Come The Traffic Makers Trail Riders

The Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo is just days away, but the trail riders are pulling into town tomorrow. The HLSR Trail Ride began in 1952 as a publicity stunt with four cowboys. HLSR 2007 features 13 groups consisting of thousands of riders with some traveling hundreds of miles in the saddle. Those of you who like the cowboy way (no, not the crappy movie) should be able to catch an eyeful of traditional wagon train type nostalgia tomorrow afternoon.

All rides will conclude at Memorial Park on Friday which means that traffic around the usually uncongested as hell Galleria area will be even more fun. Trail riders will begin arriving at Memorial around lunch time with caravans continuing to arrive throughout the afternoon.

The riders will approach the park from all directions with some groups moving up the Hwy 59 North corridor to South Post Oak. Another group plans to ride down Houston Avenue and Allen Parkway. The routes shouldn't be a big surprise because they're the same every year. But, you should check out the routes if you are concerned about not having an aneurysm in traffic and getting home at a decent time.

Please be respectful to the riders and their animals. If you think an hour commute home is tough, you should move back to civilization try riding a couple hundred miles over a few days.
