Good morning, Houston. If you have an outstanding municipal warrant, it's time to start watching out: More than 150 law enforcement agencies, including HPD, are gearing up to arrest you next week. It's part of the Great Texas Warrant Roundup, which runs for a week beginning Friday; if you don't take care of your warrant, KHOU warns, you risk "being arrested and embarrassed in front of family, friends or even co-workers." No, not co-workers! you're probably saying to yourself — but yes, even Carol, Ted and Deb could find out. So, uh, if you have a warrant, take care of it. Remember, we're watching.
>> Republicans to Eckels: Give us a star: Some Harris County Republicans are threatening not to support County Judge Robert Eckels in any future political races if he doesn't support a high-profile replacement after he steps down from his position. Many GOP leaders want a county judge who already holds a county office, like Tax Assessor-Collector Paul Bettencourt or District Clerk Charles Bacarisse, but it looks like the county commissioners are leaning toward ex-state rep and consultant Ed Emmett. "This will be about who the [Commissioners] Court is comfortable with and who will provide the best leadership for the community," Eckels said.
>> Shocking news: Carter's Grove, the North Shepherd Drive apartment complex where two kids were shocked by an electric transformer Sunday, could be shut down because of repeated code violations. The children — Isaac Gallegos and Anthony Mejano, both 5 — were shocked by the transformer, which was in an unlocked case; KHOU found five other unlocked transformers at the complex as well, and apartment managers had been cited for violating city electric codes. "There are some issues with the building that need to be addressed," Wes Johnson with the city's Public Works Department said. "If they don't get addressed soon the intensity of the investigation will escalate probably to the point where we may consider those people out."
>> This just in: a lack of professionalism in Anna Nicole case?: Troy Hollier, a HPD officer who served as Anna Nicole Smith's security guard for several years, tells KHOU he was appalled by the lack of professionalism shown by Larry Seidlin, the Florida judge who presided over the custody hearing for Smith's body. Hollier said when he took the stand in the hearing and testified that he never saw Smith taking prescription drugs, Seidlin declared that he wasn't a credible witness and removed him from the stand. "Like, that was devastating to me," Hollier said. "I was up there, everything I said up there was the truth and I will back it right now. It's the truth."
>> Today's weather: Wow, so how about that fog this morning, eh? But the forecast actually looks pretty good today: The last bits of fog should be gone before too long, and then we can look for a mostly sunny afternoon with a high around 75, followed by a clear night with a low of 60 (and more fog rolling in early tomorrow morning). Enjoy the sun while you can — tomorrow and Thursday could be rainy.
