Sizzler making Houston comeback

sizzler_022807.JPGStarting now and through the next few years, expect to see a few Sizzlers popping up on the horizon. The restaurant chain left Houston in the late 1980s, but after a major reorganization and facelift, the new ownership must feel confident about the Houston market. With the current offerings of high-priced beef (think Vic and Anthony's, Smith and Wollensky, Morton's), and the possibility of the Houston Pavilions bringing in Lawry's, maybe we are ready for a cheaper chain in the city (watch out, Steak & Ale).

According to the Houston Business Journal, the new Sizzlers will have a new menu, but will still use the old pay-first method. Ground has already broken on the first franchised restaurant in town:

Assad Shorrosh, principal of Shorco Enterprises, a new Sizzler franchisee, broke ground on Feb. 26 on the first new Sizzler location at F.M. 2920 and Kuykendahl Road in Spring. The restaurant is expected to open in June.

Another franchise set to open in April will be located in Rosenberg, so there are no early prospects of any opening up in Houston proper. While there was no big news of the restaurants' closing in the late eighties, one of the last restaurants hanging on was sold in December of 1989, located at 4710 FM 1960 (presently Victor's Delicatessen & Restaurant).
