Dynamo Advance to the CONCACAF Semi’s

020307_dynamo.jpgThe Dynamo won an exciting game last night against Puntarenas FC at the Aggie soccer complex in college station. This game was the second game of the quarterfinals in the CONCACAF Champions Cup. Although the Dynamo fell in the 1st leg of the series, the 2-0 win last night was enough to advance to the semi-finals.

In the 27th minute Paul Dalglish scored the opening goal off of a block from Puntarenas goal keeper Shane Orio. The Dynamo continued to play an aggressive first half keeping the Costa Rican defense busy. Just six minutes into the second half Dynamo goalie Zach Wells made a great save against a 20-yard attempt to keep the momentum alive. The Dynamo continued the attack the on Costa Rica goal with a close header from Craig Waibel. But it was Brian Ching’s header that setup the Kelly Gray shot, to get the second goal in the 74th minute.

This win marks the first time since 2000 that an MLS team has defeated a Costa Rican club in the CONCACAF champions cup. The Dynamo now advance to the Semi-finals to face Mexico's Club Pachuca. The first game will be held in Houston at Robertson Stadium on March 14th. Tickets on sale starting today.
