Remember the Alamo?

030607_alamo.jpgThe Daughters of the Republic of Texas do. Big plans are underway to spend somewhere in the ballpark of $1 million to touch-up the Texas landmark. The Alamo suffers from weather erosion due to wind and rain, as well as the gentle caresses of the 2.5 million field trippers and tourists that visit every year.

The specific plan for renovation and upgrade will be released in May. The DRT do not plan to fix historic flaws in the building, such as chunks of stone missing due to cannon fire and bullets. The building suffered this siege exactly 171 years ago today. This will be the first master plan for the Alamo since 1979, but they did some re-roofing as recently as 1999. The DRT also do not plan to use state funds for these renovations and will be relaying on donations alone.

We have just one question: will they be putting in a basement?
