Yeah, yeah. Sure, sure. It's spring and Astros fever is catching around town. But, football season is almost here five months away, and the draft is looming on the horizon. The Texans are making moves in the Free Agent market to gain talent and have a better idea their needs from the draft. Former Greenbay Packers running back, Ahman Green, will join the the backfield after signing on Sunday. Now the Texans are entertaining QB Patrick Ramsey who was released by the Jets last Friday.
Here's a recap of the quarterback drama for those of you not playing along at home. David Carr was the first round pick of the 2002 draft but has not played up to expectations in his five seasons with the Texans. The Texans passed on opportunity draft The Vince with the first pick in last year's draft. Rumors swirled after the end of the 2006 season regarding Jake "Cheesy Porn Stache" Plummer joining the burgeoning population of former Broncos in Houston. There is speculation that Plummer would have been dealt to the Texans via Tampa Bay after the Broncos and Bucs had come to terms. But, Plummer retired. Enter Patrick Ramsey.
Ramsey says he's ready to compete for the starting job if the Texans are interested. "That’s the main attraction, and this is certainly a team that has a lot to offer and that I think has a bright future.” Ramsey has 24 career starts under his belt, which is better than than incumbent backup, Sage Rosenfels, who's got to be chomping at the bit for a chance to start.
As the quarterback dance continues we are left to wonder who'll be two-stepping with McNair & Kubiak when the music stops. Will Ramsey join the fray? Will the Texans stand by Carr again and focus filling gaps in the offensive line? Or, will the Texans be aggressive and trade up in the draft to snatch JaMarcus Russell away from the Raiders?
