So, Houstonist has forewarned you about a couple of events this weekend, The Orange Show Extravaganza whch is occuring Saturday afternoon (props to reader BShirley - we were remiss) and the AIDS Walk 2007 on Sunday. The Orange Show is typically looking for helpers at it's events - even if it's free, it's still gotta go off without a hitch. Call them at 713.926.6368 to see if you can be more than a participant this Saturday. The AIDS Walk 2007 is a good time for a very worthy cause, click our link above for some stats. It may be late for registration and "body volunteering" but, you can still help make a difference, just follow this link and make a donation to the cause. You can still make a general donation, or support an individual or team. You know, what with a free Saturday event, you could have an extra five or ten-spot in your wallet to give. Just saying.
Now, for the fun part. This is what we call "Double Bonus", it is a reason to drink Nehi RC Cola ice cold bottled beer (like say, Lone Star) and give to a good cause. This year's Children's Art Car Project is a station wagon (we love the sta-wag) which will be just encrusted with bottle caps. The project is underway, what with the parade right around the corner on Saturday, May 12th, so, the need for bottle caps is immediate. At this time, we have one official bottle cap drop off location - P J's Sports Bar, located at 614 W. Gray (next door to Cecil's Tavern). So, start amassing the caps and head over to P J's for a cold beer and to drop off your Art Car contribution. We might add that if you have a favorite bar/pub/ice house and you just adore the Art Car, talk to the staff or management about saving them too. We'll tell you when to stop dropping them off (promise). Notify Houstonist if your favorite watering hole is "in", we'll fetch the bottle caps for you. Since we feel compelled, we will remind you to try to drink responsibly - even if all of your co-workers are evil, the car died and your cat yakked a hairball on your new rug - it'll be okay, and any of those things beats a night in Houston's "clink".

Shameless Oldies plug: If you can't make the stellar event on Saturday, The Allen Oldies Band will perform (and it's a performance) at the Big Top Lounge, located at 3710 Main Street, on Friday night, and the admission is free. Shenanigans commence at 10 p.m. Please, buy drinks for them look for merchandise or a tip jar when any artists put on the freebie for you - it's just polite. Don't be a cheapass.
