Forget pepper spray and guns: In one homeowner's case, all that was required to send home invaders running early this morning was a broomstick. (And no, it wasn't one of those weird Disney broomsticks that came to life and carried buckets of water around — though we admit, that would come in handy sometimes.)
It happened at an apartment at Airline and Lyerly; two men reportedly broke into the front door and began rummaging through the apartment while the family that lives there slept. The burglars eventually tried to open the bedroom door — a mistake, it turns out, as the man of the house went after them with a broomstick, sending one of the suspects through a front window. Must have been quite a whack.
The two suspects fled, but police caught and arrested them pretty quickly and brought them back to the apartment for identification. One of the suspects was slightly hurt during the incident, but no one else was injured; police said the men didn't show any weapons during the attack.
