A note for anybody who might be headed out to west Houston this weekend: the Katy Freeway will be closed in both directions between Eldridge Parkway and Highway 6 beginning at 9 p.m. tonight. Drivers on the freeway will be diverted to the frontage roads — so you will be able to get through, theoretically, but we recommend not trying it unless you have a lot of extra time and nerves of steel.
The closure will allow workers on the freeway reconstruction project to demolish the T-ramp that connected the Katy's HOV lane with the Addicks Park & Ride. Needless to say, that means the HOV will also be closed all weekend. At 5 a.m. Monday, the freeway will reopen, complete with a new HOV exit ramp to the Addicks lot.
Another shutdown coming in that section of freeway: From 9 p.m. Monday to 5 a.m. Tuesday, the westbound frontage road between Eldridge and Highway 6 will close, meaning traffic will be detoured onto Dairy Ashford.
