Heads up, campers. The new Daylight Saving Time rules go into effect tonight/tomorrow at 2 AM. Ain't no thang if you only have an alarm clock and a wrist watch. Roll the hands of your Rolex forward when you stumble out of the pub tonight.
Things get tricky if you have a software powered clock, like the one on the laptop you're using to read this or your CrackBerry, because DST starts a couple weeks earlier than last year thanks to the Energy Policy Act of 2005.
Many software vendors and service providers have patches to head off what some are calling a mini-Y2K. Cell providers, Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint and AT&T/Cingular all have support documents online for you CrackHeads and other not-so-smart phone users. Computer users should update your Mac or PC before you head to the sports bar to watch the OSU versus UT basketball game.
Still can't figure out how to set the clock on your VCR DVD player? Move to Arizona, Hawaii or Puerto Rico. They don't use DST.
It always sucks to lose an hour of sleep thanks to DST. Houstonist prefers to focus on gaining an hour of partying on November 4th when DST ends.
