Heavy rain, Round 2

031407_radar.jpgAnother night, another series of strong storms: This time, we had isolated reports of 50 mph winds and hail, with a possible tornado reported near Bush Intercontinental Airport. Otherwise, though, things weren't nearly as bad as they could have been except for a couple of incidents:

  • In north Harris County, several cars were stalled on a North Freeway feeder road around 10 p.m. when as much as four inches of rain fell in a short time. The flooded spot — at I-45 and North Vista — must not have been all that bad, though, as KTRK reports that several other vehicles made it through the high water with no problem.
  • And in Clear Lake, lightning struck a home at Rockhaven and Scenic View. The family inside smelled gas and rushed out of the house; turns out the lightning had knocked a hole not only in the roof, but also a gas line. And it wasn't a small thing: the hole was "[big] enough for two people to crawl through," HFD's Gary Bennett said.

In other rain-related news, about 11,000 people in Richmond and Rosenberg lost power overnight, and a car hydroplaned on Allen Parkway, nearly sliding off into Buffalo Bayou. The good news is that the rain has moved through the area now, but the bad news is that another series of storms will be headed our way this afternoon. Enjoy!
