Over thirty years ago, we had Tammy Wynette singing "Stand By Your Man." Then the tide turned, and we had Alanis Morissette giving her boyfriend a piece of her mind in "You Oughtta Know" in the 90's. The new British pop star Lily Allen takes it a step further in her song and video "Smile" by telling her boyfriend "At first when I see you cry/Yeah, it makes me smile./At worst I feel bad for awhile/But then I just smile."
Lily's was signed to a major record label last year mainly due to her success on her MySpace site. Now, she has three U.K. Top 40 hits under her belt, including this #1 song from last summer. Now, she's off to conquer the U.S., and she's off to a good start -- her debut album reached #20 last month.
