Yes, the view is lovely. But 'The Royalton' is a depressingly gaudy replacement for the Gulf Publishing Building. Houstonist, I am disappointed. This is no Shelterporn. This is a 33-story reminder that a beautiful part of Houston's history has been bulldozed in the name of conspicuous consumption.

a little digging in brazoria county tax records show that in 2004, something named "Family Care Medical / Ulysses W. Watkins, M.D." occupied the building...weeeird

I don't think that big house was originally a house. The whole setup is wrong. It must be a hospital or something. Why design a kitchen like that and the whole suspended ceiling thing screams institution.

That big house is absolutely FUGLY. You would think with all of that $$ they could make the sports bar look a little less like bubba's and more like the 5 million dollar house its suppose to be. Honestly, who thought the square florescent lights would be a good idea in 10 years??
