One of the many reasons Houston is a great city is because of the amazing medical community. One aspect of this community is the Air Ambulance service, known as Life Flight. We are sure you have seen these shiny red helicopters flying overhead, but did you know that the Life Flight helicopters average 17 years old? Well the Memorial Hermann Foundation is looking to change that, by raising $40million for six new helicopters (and related equipment). As we mentioned earlier, the campaign recently surpassed the halfway point.
The new helicopters will replace the existing four aircraft in service, and provide one dedicated to pediatric and obstetric cases and one dedicated to the east side (Ship Channel) of Houston. Life Flight flies an average of 3,000 emergency cases each year covering a 150 mile radius from the medical center. The current average response time by Life Flight is 45 minutes. With the new equipment in place Memorial Hermann hopes to cut the response time by 15 minutes.
Houstonist admires all the Life Flight personnel and anyone in the emergency medical field, because we know they risk their lives to save others. If you are interested in learning more about Life Flight fundraiser, click here.

Missed Connections: Gefilte Fish...and "Chain Connections"

I am very glad that we have Life Flight and it's supported systems, I just hope I never need them.
I have a personal moment of silence everytime I see one fly overhead.
If we conducted ourselves in a more safe manner, we wouldn't need as many of these expensive flights. Harris County is the most dangerous place to drive in the country, according to H-GAC.
