MFA Film Premiere: Special Thanks to Roy London
Beloved acting coach Roy London (1943—1993) taught and inspired some of Hollywood´s most successful stars, among them Geena Davis, Jeff Goldblum, Garry Shandling, Sharon Stone, and Houston´s own Lois Chiles and Patrick Swayze. This documentary explores the crafts of acting and filmmaking and the creative process common to all disciplines. The words of London´s students and associates evoke a vivid profile of a truly remarkable mentor. Stone and Chiles are especially candid in the film´s late scenes, discussing the time they spent with London in the months prior to his death from AIDS-related illness.
After the film, stay for a discussion with actress Lois Chiles, director Christopher Monger, and producer Karen Montgomery.
Lois Chiles, actress
Native Houstonian Lois Chiles was discovered by a Glamour magazine editor while attending Finch College in New York. A successful modeling career in the 1970s led to appearances in The Way We Were and The Great Gatsby and then her best-known role: Dr. Holly Goodhead in the James Bond film Moonraker. She has taught film acting at the University of Houston and serves on the MFAH film committee.
Christopher Monger, director
Welsh-born Christopher Monger has won awards for directing theatre, feature films, and screenwriting. Monger was a founding member of Chapter Film Workshop in Wales and made his first no-budget features there. He moved to Los Angeles and produced The Englishman Who Went up a Hill but Came down a Mountain; Waiting For The Light; and Crime Pays. He is currently adapting Jonathan´s Harr The Lost Painting at Miramax, and developing Not Fade Away with Karen Montgomery.
Karen Montgomery, producer
Karen Montgomery entered the production arena on Coming Home, working closely with the writer Waldo Salt. She worked as an actress while learning the other side of the camera as a story analyst.
