Houston man faked his own kidnapping

032707_knight.jpgLooks like Houstonian Bobby Knight is going to have some 'splaining to do: Police say Knight, whose wife reported him missing March 14 after finding a ransom note in her mailbox demanding $50,000 for his return, staged his kidnapping in an attempt to get away from his spouse.

According to KHOU, when Harris County sheriff's investigators began looking into the case, they traced one of Knight's credit card receipts to a Radio Shack store in New Mexico. They called the store and found out that a cell phone had been purchased with the card; the investigators got the number of the cell phone, called it ... and Knight answered. Ah, the unexpected end of a totally foolproof plan!

Knight, 45, told police that he made up the whole kidnapping story so he could get away from his wife. He won't face any charges because he didn't break any laws during his little jaunt; police did tell him to go back home and to stop throwing chairs. What? Not that Bobby Knight? Oh. Well, moving on ...
