Breaking News: Fire rages at Houston office building

032807_hfd.jpgAccording to the Chronicle and CNN, firefighters are still working to put out a fire at a medical office building in east Houston. The fire was reported around 5:15 from the building, 9343 North Loop East. Firefighters are evacuating people who are trapped in the building, as they are only able to access the first through fourth floors.

At least four people, including one firefighter, have been rushed to the hospital already, and firefighters are unsure how many people remain in the building. At least one fire captain remains unaccounted for at this time. The cause of the fire is unknown. Traffic remains backed up in this area as nearly 100 firefighters work to calm the flames. The mid-rise building was built in 1980 and currently shows no severe structural damage.

UPDATE: Rescue operations have now concluded, with two firefighters and three citizens were taken to hospitals due to smoke inhalation, but none have suffered serious injuries. Three people are confirmed dead as firefighters continue to search the building for others.
