One teenager was killed and two were wounded in an apparent drive-by shooting in southwest Houston last night — and the mother of one of the victims was arrested after she charged at police officers at the scene. It happened shortly after 9 p.m. in the 8900 block of Beechnut, where the teens were walking with friends; an unknown number of suspects approached them and opened fire, hitting the three. One of the victims was treated at the scene and the other two, one of whom later died, were transported to Ben Taub.
And then there was the mother, who KHOU reports was "heavily armed and quite distraught." According to KPRC, the woman ran toward police officers shouting something about her son; when an officer pointed a gun at her, the woman dropped the gun she was carrying into some bushes. "She brought some weapons to the scene. There were knives and that type of thing, so we did have to un-arm her and take her into custody," HPD Sgt. Ramiro Lozano told Channel 11.
Detectives said the shooting was gang-related, but they don't have any suspects and don't know the exact motive yet. Police weren't sure whether any charges would be filed against the mother.
