A lot of people seemed to like last month’s iMix (and, in all honesty, we did, too), so we’re proud to bring you Houstonist iMix: April 2007.
This month, we bring you some more new and uprising artists, including some of those that we caught at SXSW last month (The Black Angels, The Bird and the Bee, Mika, RJD2). We threw in some other independent artists we like (Beulah, Marah) and a band that’s so exciting, they named themselves !!!. A few classics, including 70’s vintage Stevie Wonder, Beastie Boys, multi-Grammy winner Alison Krauss, and a track from Ryan Adams’ first solo album after he left Whiskeytown. If you haven’t checked out local singer/songwriter Tody Castillo, definitely pick up his track we included on here. Finally, a song from Old 97’s frontman Rhett Miller, who’ll be in town next week with his band.
A reminder on how it works: Houstonist contributors submitted a song or two that they can’t get enough of right now — some old, some new (of course, some contributors were overflowing with choices; we had to tell those to make their own mix tape). Then, we threw our tracks together and created our own iMix on iTunes. If the song wasn’t currently available on iTunes, we had to delete it (which usually only affects the more regional music). So, if you have iTunes on your computer, you can now download our iMix, or, if you’re afraid of commitment, you can download the tracks individually.
Enjoy!
