Though the identity of the body found in the garage of a Midtown home last weekend hasn't officially been released, The Facts is reporting that it may be that of 28-year-old Jerry Glaspie, a former Danbury resident. Laura Glaspie, Jerry Glaspie's sister-in-law, told the paper that the family got confirmation from police late last week. "It's traumatic. No doubt in our mind he was murdered," Laura Glaspie said. "They're waiting on the toxicology and autopsy reports. They don’t have an actual cause of death yet."
Laura Glaspie said the family got a phone call in February from Jerry Glaspie's friends in Houston letting them know he had been missing since late January. The family began working with police, hospitals and medical examiner's offices to find Jerry, and though they got some information from his friends, they apparently didn't have any real word until last week. "A lot of things started matching up, but they still needed to run some tests on him and do the identification," Laura Glaspie said.
Weinstein was arrested March 24 after police searched his Midtown townhome and found a body in the trunk of his Oldsmobile, which was parked in the garage. Weinstein's neighbors had complained for weeks about a foul odor around his house, but Weinstein insisted the smell was coming from food and garbage a friend had left around the property. It's not clear what the relationship between Weinstein and Glaspie was, but we imagine we'll learn more if — or when — the body is identified as his. (Funeral services were held yesterday for Glaspie, so we assume the identification is complete.)
In other Weinstein news, State District Judge Caprice Cosper set his bail at $50,000 on Friday. "He looked a lot better [Friday] than he did [at his earlier court hearing] Tuesday," Weinstein's attorney, Patty Segura, said. She said she expected Weinstein to post bail and return to his house in the 1300 block of Rosalie.
