Houston Civic Symphony showcases young artists

040307_symphony.JPGIf you can't catch Wicked tonight, may we interest you in the Houston Civic Symphony performance at the Hobby Center's other spectacular venue, Zilkha Hall? Tonight's performance will showcase the winners from the Young Artists competition held earlier this year - and it's free!

The Houston Civic Symphony is the city's "first and finest community orchestra." They perform 5 concerts at different venues each year. The Young Artists competition is an annual event, but this is the first year that the winners have performed with the symphony.

When the Civic Symphony says "young," they really mean it. The competition was open to students in 5th-12th grades. Some of tonight's performers are only in seventh grade, which makes us think about what deadbeats (no pun intended) we were in middle school. Childhood trauma aside, this definitely sounds like a performance you don't want to miss.

When: Tonight, 7:30 pm
Where: The Hobby Center's Zilkha Hall
Cost: Free!
