Today’s Photo of the Day comes from flickr user and Houstonist photo contributor Randy.
This is a detail shot of Houston's own Beer Can House. It even has an entry in the RoadsideAmerica.com website. The house was originally owned by John Milkovisch, a retired railroad worker. He adorned his property with beer cans, pull tabs and various other items to create this amazing folk art living space. When John and his wife, Mary, both passed away, The Orange Show stepped in and purchased the property. The home is constantly being restored and volunteers are always needed. If you've never seen The Beer Can House, Houstonist highly encourages a visit. The property is located at 222 Malone Street off of Memorial between Memorial Park and Shepherd. The home is not open to visitors, but you can drive by and view this amazing piece of original Houston folk art.

Volunteering to restore the Beer Can House is quite fun. You can work at the house itself or on the "porch" (loading dock) of the Orange Show's warehouse next to DiverseWorks. I spent most of the time daisy-chaining pull-tabs while my friends sheared the bottoms off donated vintage cans.
