FBI searching for 'Desperate Dad' bank robber

040607_robber.jpgThe FBI is on the lookout for a bank robber they're calling the "Desperate Dad" — a guy who robbed an Uptown Wachovia Bank branch last month, claiming that he needed the money because he had lost his job and had a baby at home. The man walked into the bank at 4906 San Felipe at 12:37 p.m. March 6, walked to the teller counter and pulled a chrome pistol from a navy blue zippered bag he was carrying. "I just lost my job and I have a small baby at home," tellers quoted the man as saying. "I don't care if I go to jail." According to witnesses, he was "very nervous and visibly shaking."

A teller put the money into the man's bag and he ran out of the building; no getaway vehicle was seen. The suspect is described as a white male, about 23 or 24 years old. He's around 5 feet, 6 inches or 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighs between 150 and 160 pounds; he has a pale complexion, skinny build, blonde hair and was clean-shaven. At the time of the robbery, he was wearing a white T-shirt, gray sweat jacket and large sunglasses. Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at 713.222.TIPS or the FBI's Houston office at 713.693.5000.
