I-10, Beltway interchange closures begin tonight

040607_beltway.jpgBeginning at 10 pm tonight, Beltway 8 southbound ramps to the I-10/Katy Freeway east- and westbound will be closed. These are the first of major long-term interchange closures at this intersection. The I-10 westbound ramp will reopen in July, while the eastbound one will be shut down until October.

In preparation for the direct connector closures, the new southbound and northbound frontage road "flyover" bridges were recently opened to traffic. The opening of these two bridges is expected to yield noticeable improvements in the area’s traffic flow, especially during the upcoming direct connector closures. The Chronicle offers a full list of detour routes and other temporary closures.

The next ramp closure begins April 27, when the ramp from the Beltway 8 northbound to I-10/Katy Freeway eastbound will be shut down.
