$75M lotto winner remains anonymous

041007_money.jpgThe man who had the only winning ticket in Saturday's $75 million lottery drawing returned to the League City convenience store where he bought the ticket to let the staff know — but no one apparently thought to get his name. Not that it really matters: The only people who need to know his name are the ones at the Texas Lottery Commission in Austin, where he'll claim his prize. Still, Houstonist was hoping to get a hint so we could call him up start badgering him for some spending money. What? Isn't that what people do?

Nizar Karim Ali, a clerk at the Quick Mart at 2100 FM 2094, told The Galveston County Daily News that the man came in shortly before the drawing Saturday and bought $20 worth of tickets including the winner, which was a Quick Pick — a ticket for which a machine randomly generates numbers. Ali heard the winning ticket had been bought at the store, but he wasn't convinced until the winner stopped by: "I wasn't sure if someone really won until that," he said. "A lot of people kept calling up here and everyone has been stopping by." According to the Chronicle, the man visited the store to get its retail number, but didn't give his name.

The winner selected the cash value option when he bought the ticket, meaning he'll get a one-time payout that lottery spokeswoman Robyn Smith estimated at $44.5 million. And in case you're wondering, the winning numbers were 7, 9, 11, 30, 33 and 53.
