Good morning, Houston. If you're looking for a property to add to your budding real estate portfolio, why not think big? And we mean big: The landmark Bank of America Center downtown is up for sale. Some stats: 56 floors, 1.3 million square feet, killer roofline. And it's already 93 percent leased, which means there's 91,000 square feet left over for you. Talk about shelterporn!
>> Bad education: Police say a 14-year-old girl was kidnapped and sexually assaulted last week while walking to school in southeast Houston. The girl was on the way to Albert Thomas Junior High when a man stopped and asked her for directions; she answered and walked on, and the man approached her from behind, abducted her at gunpoint and took her to a storage shed at a nearby church, where he raped her. "This attack was random, and the suspect we are looking for is very dangerous because he saw an opportunity," HPD Officer Hollie Whillock told KPRC. Officials are still searching for the suspect, described as a black man in his early 40s, around 6 feet tall with a bald head and crooked right front tooth.
>> $1M worth of kids' books stolen: Officials at the Houston Alumni and Youth Center are trying to figure out who stole $1 million worth of donated children's books over the weekend — and why. The books had been donated to help teach kids basic skills and prepare them for the TAKS test, but now they're gone: "All I am saying is whatever you were thinking, what you have done is not just hurt one child, you've hurt a community," Gwen Mathews, executive director of Second Chance Technology, said. "We are educating children." One thing that seems clear: There was more than one thief. "It took 10 men to bring the books in themselves," Mathews said.
>> Kingwood midshipman found guilty: Kenny Ray Morrison, a Naval Academy midshipman from Kingwood, was found guilty yesterday of sexually assaulting a fellow student last year — and now he could face a prison sentence and dismissal from the academy. The February 2006 assault took place at a Washington hotel after a night of drinking; though jurors found Morrison guilty in that incident, they cleared him of charged that he had sex with another fellow midshipman against her will last April.
>> Today's weather: We'll start the day off with a chance of rain, which should give way to partly sunny skies and a high of 77 after lunch. Things should be clear and mild tonight, with a low in the mid-60s; the rest of the week, look for sun and highs in the mid-80s. Ah, spring.
