Morning Roundup: Welcome, Lucy edition

Good morning, Houston. In case you haven't heard, Channel 11 has a new anchor to replace Lisa Foronda: She's Lucy Noland, a native of Saigon who's leaving a job as co-anchor of the WNYW morning show in New York City for the job here. "It's time for me to put down roots, to have a house and home," Noland told the Chronicle. "This nomadic lifestyle has been fun. It's taken me far and wide, and it's provided me the depth of knowledge to know a good thing when I see it. Houston's it."

>> Shooting suit: The mother of Robert McIntosh, the man shot and killed by an HPD officer in January, has announced plans to sue the city for $10 million in connection with her son's death. The incident caused quite a bit of controversy earlier this year: Though police said McIntosh was shot while trying to attack a cop after a traffic stop, a witness maintains that McIntosh was in handcuffs when he was killed. Danetta McIntosh, the mother, said the suit is her way of seeking justice: "I don't want one penny of it," she told KTRK. "They can bring my son back. That's what I want to happen."

>> Searching for a fugitive: The Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force is on the lookout for Oscar Trujillo, a fugitive believed to be in northwest Houston. Trujillo, 26, was charged with the sexual assault of a woman in January; at the time, he was out of jail on bond for two aggravated robbery charges and one count of aggravated kidnapping. He is described as a 5-foot, 7-inch tall, 130-pound Hispanic man who also uses aliases of Jose Fernando Carrion and Humberto Morellon. Anyone with information sould call Crime Stoppers at 713.222.TIPS.

>> Senate OKs steroid checks: The state Senate on Tuesday approved a bill calling for steroid tests for high school athletes — which, if implemented, will be the largest high school steroid testing program in the country. There are about 733,000 athletes at Texas public high schools; under the program, at least 22,000 of them would be tested beginning next fall. Athletes who test positive would have to sit out of competition for at least 30 days and could be permanently banned from sports for repeated positives. "I think this will make high school athletics safer," Sen. Kyle Janek (R-Houston), the sponsor of the bill, told the AP.

>> Today's weather: Looks like the spingtime weather is holding: There could be some light rain in the area this morning, but by the afternoon, expect partly cloudy skies with a high around 82. Tonight, look for a low in the lower 60s.
