space125gallery presents UrbanScape: Opening Reception

Join the Houston Arts Alliance tonight (Thursday) as they open the doors of space125gallery to present an unexpected new visual art exhibit, Urbanscape, with works by Lillian Warren, Katy Anderson, and Patrick Medrano.

Half of the new exhibit takes every-day, ordinary sights and elevates them to stunning works of art. The second half of the exhibit transforms everyday pieces into sculptural art; however, both halves work in tandem and are designed to make the viewer think differently.

Tonight kicks off the exhibition with an evening reception from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. for patrons, the arts community, participating artists, HAA board members and staff. The exhibition will be on display through May 24, 2007.

“With Urbanscape, we have the opportunity to showcase three local visual artists who make us think about our surroundings in new ways,” said Houston Arts Alliance Assistant Director of Grants & Services, Marta Montenegro. “Lillian Warren’s work reinvents our common, urban surroundings, while Patrick Medrano, in his collaboration with Katy Anderson, reinvents our notion of appearances. Together, our featured artists convey the unexpected in the mundane with realism and unique points of view.”
The exhibition is designed to explore the real and surreal within our urban backdrop, parlaying the extraordinary in familiar panoramas and the ordinary juxtapositions of the place we call home.
