Houston Roller Derby Spring Fling and Happy Hour!!

Slugs and Bruises!! Flat Track Action begins this Sunday with "Spring Fling" the first official bout! Houstonist is jazzed about the second season of roller derby! The exhibition bouts in the Verizon proved to us that the visibility is indeed very, very good. The action was even better, with the rookies looking very un-rookie-like and some having major talent (Rookie Savage Rose is a fantastic jammer - bodies just fly out of her path) and the veterans are skating better than ever. The pre-bout Happy Hour is tomorrow from 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. at Crome Bar - so, come on out and see the ladies, get your drink on and forget the lousy work week we are just about to leave behind.

Sunday the action begins at 6:00 p.m. and the doors open at 5:00 p.m.. If you don't have your season tickets yet, you can still purchase the remainder of the season for $10/bout, plus you get schwag! Each season ticket purchase gets an HRD calendar and a T-shirt (plus, you get in the door 15 minutes earlier). Tickets are available individually at the door for $15 (Ticketmaster upcharge, yippeeeee!). Half-time entertainment will be provide by the Aggie Wranglers , a dance group that performs choreographed high-speed polka (this we must see!) and their internationally famous Aggie-style jitterbug. As with all HRD bouts, there is a charitable side (these ladies skate on their own dime, equipment, fishnets and all - no big contracts with lots of zeroes and they have to rely on their own health insurance if they fall down and break their crown) we are waiting on an update as to the lucky organization for this bout. Refreshments are available (the monster Shiner Bock for $9 is the best bang) - be prepared to pay "arena prices". Bring some cash, we really don't want to wait around for you to put your beverages on the plastic. Use your plastic to pick up some cool merchandise instead.
