Urban Corridor Planning is a City of Houston initiative that "will change how the City regulates development and designs its streets and other infrastructure in order to create a high quality urban environment in areas along METRO’s light rail and guided rapid transit corridors." The results of UCP's Phase I can be seen here.
Now it's time to begin the next phase, and the city is all but begging for your input. The kick-off workshop for all six corridors (that's Main Street, Uptown, East End, North, Southeast and University, for the uninitiated) will be tomorrow at 8:30 am at the George R. Brown Convention Center. The discussion will focus on general guidelines that are applicable to all corridors.
Corridor-specific workshops will begin with the East End on April 16 & 17. All workshops last two days, beginning at 6pm on day one, and are open to the public, but RSVP's should be emailed. Day One of each workshop will focus on discussing opportunities for change in each corridor, and Day Two will build on this discussion and formulate preliminary design ideas. Check the dates on the website and come out to make a difference in your community.
When: Saturday April 14, 8:30am
Where: GRB Convention Center
