In February, the Hobby Center's Brilliant Lecture Series welcomed Sir Sidney Poitier. This month continues the series with Kofi Annan of Ghana.

Annan was the seventh Secretary-General of the United Nations and the first to be elected from the ranks of its staff. He began his first term on 1 January 1997 and completed his second, and final, term on 31 December 2006. His priorities as secretary-general were to revitalize the organization through a comprehensive program of reform: to strengthen the organization's traditional work in the areas of development and maintenance of international peace and security; to encourage and advocate human rights; and to restore public confidence in the UN by reaching out to new partners and, in his words, by "bringing the United Nations closer to the people".

VIP patrons are invited to attend a pre-event reception with Mr. Annan and will be presented with a copy of his bestselling book, We the Peopless.
