Woe to he who ignores blessings as righteous as these: Ben and Jerry's, the crazy Vermonter ice cream chain, is offering a free cone of ice cream today from noon to 8 PM at all of its area locations. There's no catch; just show up and enjoy. The venerable ice cream makers are marking this year's Free Cone Day by introducing two new flavors, Créme Brulée and Cinnamon Buns, thus propagating the trend of violating once-holy dessert/ice cream boundaries. In addition, B&J's is reintroducing their plain vanilla and chocolate flavors in a new Fair Trade Certified form, benefiting New England farmers or something. Whatever: bring on the Chunky Monkey!
Of course, the Leon Hale in all of us will always insist that none of these outlandish flavors will ever match up to Blue Bell's Homemade Vanilla. And yes, this obviously is an objectively true and factual assertion, questioned only by fools and delinquents, but today let us all lax our high standards.
