Nights on Blue Bayou

190407_bayou.jpgYou may remember Houstonist's note on the fabulous new Blue Bayou, aka the Sabine-to-Bagby Promenade.

This springtime weather won't last for long, so while the evenings are still cool and relatively bug-free, get over to the bayou this Saturday for a little nighttime fun.

Nights on Blue Bayou will have star gazing with the HMNS George Observatory volunteers, boat rides, park food concessions, astrology readings, storytelling, night hikes and glow-in-the-dark face painting. In case you need to find your face, or someone else's.

After the sun sets, check out the oh-so-lunar lighting system, designed by artist Stephen Korns and international lighting firm L’Observatoire. It's made to illuminate the bridges, trails and water along the park with a blue-to-white color scheme shifting in tandem with the phases of the moon. Trippy. And actually, quite beautiful.

If you're looking for more very cool art using light in Houston, you'll find some stunning work by world-renowned artists James Turrell and Dan Flavin here, here, and here.
