Movers & Shakers Party @ The Mink Backroom

It's probably no secret that Houstonist loves our inner city neighborhoods. And you may have picked up on the fact that we are quite fond of Midtown. With so much going on in this 20 square block area, how can we not?

One of our favorite blocks in the neighborhood, affectionately referred to as "The Big Block" is an eclectic collection of bars, restaurants, music venues and shops, bordered by Main Street, Alabama, Travis and Winbern.

Within this block lies The Mink, and it's cooler little brother, The Backroom. Formerly, Barfly and Drink Bar, the Mink and the Backroom have, in the last year, been responsible for giving some of Houston's most talented underground house, dance and electro acts a home. The Mink has also been know to pull special DJ sets like last year's Andy Rourke (former bassist of The Smiths) and British pop sensation Uffie, whose high energy show at the Mink in 2006 produced some of her most viewed videos on YouTube.

Movers and Shakers 2 - "an evening of soulful, funky, in-your-face and always refreshing house music."

Joey Webb [Housemen, RemedySF, DevotionNYC] of San Francisco - Joey makes his return visit to Houston this month. Webb's intelligent, jazzy and funky samba house sound will get ANY dance floor rocking.

Dave Wrangler [Best Served, Root Recordings, Disco Donkeys, Le Funk] - Check Dave's deep, funky and jazzy sounds out at "Le Funk" Thursdays at Chaise Lounge.

DJ Pooks [Best Served, Sideways, FactoryPeople] - Heavy emphasis on un-authorised remixes of soulful vocal tunes from yesterday and tomorrow. Pooks can be found at Sideways Tuesdays @ The Flat.

Lucas Keizer [Homesick Recordings, Infinite 420 Recordings, Kolour recordings]

shun j [Adamari Soundlab] - Shun creates an unbelievable vibe, dub reggae, dance-hall, down-tempo, intelligent hip-hop, and proper jungle in the mix.
