Review: Inversion Coffee House

042007_InversionCoffee.jpgWe heard. We went. We saw. We loved. Inversion Coffee House (1953 Montrose Blvd ), a relatively new installment to the Montrose art scene, is an independent, locally owned coffee joint. And we heart independent coffee joints. Located on the former site of the mind-boggling Inversion House created by artists Dan Havel and Dean Ruck, this java dwelling resides in the new home of the Art League of Houston. Art lovers and independent thinkers are flocking for the “artistic brew.” We thought the coffee was better than Starbucks and have heard good things about their lattes. Flyers and postings promote inspirational readings, intellectual conversations and healthy living. We felt smarter and more inspired just being there. In addition to caffeine, Inversion also offers pastries, cakes, sandwiches and salads from Kraftsman Bakery. And yes, they have free Wi-Fi. But unfortunately, they also have two flat screen televisions muted to CNN, with no captions. For an artsy fartsy place, these t.v. screens seem really out of place. Aren't artists and independent thinkers too busy discussing transcendent jibba jabba to watch CNN on mute with no captions?

But still. Go to Inversion and support local business. Get the frequent buyer card. Keep an eye out for the new sculpture garden/patio. Enjoy the exhibits of local artists (new installments every 3 months). Get good coffee and pastries.
