Police had to subdue two area men with Tasers overnight — and one of them died after being shocked, though it's not known yet whether the Taser actually had anything to do with the man's death.
The incident after which the man died happened at the Charleston Court Apartments in the 7600 block of Gulfton. Authorities were called to the complex around 10:15 p.m. after the suspect walked into an apartment — it's not clear whether it was his own apartment or someone else's — and began kicking and throwing things in what neighbors said was a drug-induced rage. Paramedics tried to subdue the man, but they couldn't; when police showed up, the man apparently made some sort of threat, and that's when officers shocked him with a Taser. The suspect either died later at a hospital (according to KHOU and KTRK) or at the apartment complex (according to the Chronicle). Police are waiting on the results of an autopsy to find out whether the Taser had anything to do with the man's death.
A few hours later, Fort Bend County Sheriff's officers had to shock a Sugar Land man who panicked after finding his 6-month-old baby dead in his bed. KHOU reports that police got a call at around 4:30 a.m. from the man's relatives in New Orleans, who were concerned because the man had called them to say his baby was dead; when officers arrived at the home in the 2200 block of Brushmeade, the man got in his car and tried to run away. Police used spike strips to stop the car and also used a Taser to stop the man, who KHOU reports might have rolled over onto the baby while sleeping, killing it. The man was arrested, but no charges have been filed.
