This is actually a great idea. I have a friend who is quite high up in the management of B&N here in Houston. They told me that B&N has not officially announced plans for their next major Houston-area store. Yes, Weingarten has put them in their plans for the renovation of the River Oaks Shopping Center, but B&N has not signed on to build there, yet. In fact, they are still in the process of investigating their options.

This does NOT mean the River Oaks location will not happen, only that it isn't a done deal just yet. Any effort to steer B&N to another location (read: DOWNTOWN!) can help save both the Alabama Bookstop and existing River Oaks Shopping Center; no shiny new B&N means no major rehaul until another anchor is found.

Yeah, there's a bank, a steakhouse, a bar, a clothing store and a parking lot where the Ale House used to be. So we'll have to stop parking, banking, eating meat, drinking wine and wearing clothes. Protesting is hard.

Even worse - I think we lost it to a parking lot. I think I am just going to stop parking my car. Bastards.

Didn't we also lose The Ale House to another large book retailer? I think I am just going to stop reading books in protest.
