The MLS Champion Houston Dynamo (1-2-1) were shut out at Robertson Stadium 1-0 by the Chicago Fire (3-0-1) on Sunday night. The Dynamo came out strong during the first half striking for their first scoring opportunity in the fourth minute, but they came up short, a theme that would ring throughout the night.
The Dynamo were denied again as first half shots by Brian Ching and Brad Davis bounced off crossbars which frustrated the 13,392 Dynamo faithful in attendance.
As the second half went underway, the Dynamo celebrated a would be own goal by Chicago goalkeeper C.J. Brown, but the referee called a foul on Ryan Cochrane that nullified the goal to Houston's disappointment.
The game winner came in the 60th minute as Chris Rolfe snuck a shot past Dynamo keeper Pat Onstead. Sunday's loss was Houston's second consecutive by shutout.
Notes: The Houston Dynamo raised over $16,000 for Virgina Tech's Spirit Memorial Fund as VT soccer coach Oliver Weiss was hand to accept the donation. The Dynamo replaced their traditional orange colored jerseys for Virgina Tech's maroon color and auction off the jerseys for the fund.
