Houstonist iMix: May

It’s that time again: Our chance to share some of our favorite music with you on our monthly Houstonist iMix.

This month spans 20 years – from “Dirty Diana” to “Earth Intruders.” The latter, Bjork’s latest single, is definitive Bjork. Other new music includes Southern-indie darlings Kings of Leon, a great album cut from the latest Modest Mouse CD, and multi-talented instrumentalist/vocalist/songwriter Andrew Bird, and alt-pop musician Khaela Maricich, who, for some reason, calls herself The Blow.

The Houstonist gang also included some artists who are a little bit closer to home in geography, but not very similar musically: Port Arthur’s hip-hop duo UGK and Houston’s own country singer/songwriter Cory Morrow. Also included is some world music (Wes), 90’s alternative rock classic (Weezer), an 80's modern rock classic (The The), and much more.

A reminder on how it works: Houstonist contributors submitted a song or two that they can’t get enough of right now — some old, some new. Then, we threw our tracks together and created our own iMix on iTunes. If the song wasn’t currently available on iTunes, we had to delete it (which usually only affects the more regional music). So, if you have iTunes on your computer, you can now download our iMix, or, if you’re afraid of commitment, you can download the tracks individually.
