Racers, start your paddles

050407_dragonboat.JPGThe Houston Dragon Boat Festival kicks off at 8:30 tomorrow morning and promises a day full of exciting races as well as a celebration of Asian culture. Teams will race along Buffalo Bayou in traditional Hong Kong-style dragon boats about every 15 minutes beginning at 9 am.

In between races, there will be plenty of other exciting things to do and see. Performers include Kaminari Taiko Drummers, an Ismaili Pipe Band, and Korean Farm Dancers - those "feisty senior citizens." Visit the Texas Dragon Boat Association website for a full schedule.

Dragon boat racing is the world's fastest growing water sport. It combines traditional Asian culture with a unique mix of cooperation and strategy as teams of 25 paddle the 40-foot long boats, which resemble dragons, along the bayou. This is Houston's 7th Annual Dragon Boat Festival.

When: Tomorrow, 8:30 am
Where: Allen's Landing
