Downtown is the place to be for Cinco de Mayo, everything's waiting for you! Commonly confused with Mexico's Independence Day - tomorrow is a celebration of General Seguin's victory over French occupational forces in the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. There's the Bayou City Crawfish Festival (which benefitsTexas EquuSearch - and has a mechanical bull that Sissy can ride!), the 7th Annual Dragon Boat Festival, held at Allen's Landing (1000 Commerce) AND Mas Tequila at the Hard Rock Cafe at Bayou Place, located at 502 Texas Avenue. The Hard Rock Cafe is hosting a benefit for Horseshoes from the Heart and The Rise School in conjunction with The Houston Margarita Society - three very, very worthy children's charities. The benefit lasts from noon until 2:00 a.m. - you can arrive downtown at 9:00 am, when the dragon boat races commence (with a huge wad of cash, concealed, of course), eat some mudbugs, gumbo or etouffee and then wander over to see the construction of the World's Largest Margarita - 500 gallons of lime & tequila goodnes! Following is the "official" description from the Hard Rock Cafe (note: The Aqua Velva is performing - a lot of margarita and a little "Love Shack"!):
What better way to spend your Cinco de Mayo than building Houston’s Largest Grand Gold Margarita? With live music throughout, join us for the day as we prepare and enjoy 500 gallons of Margarita goodness. All proceeds to benefit Horseshoe From the Heart and The Rise School in partnership with the Houston Margarita Society.

Bottom Line: If you are looking for something fun to do on Saturday to celebrate Cinco de Mayo (and who doesn't celebrate a holiday known for tequila consumption) you will find some water sports, cajun food, mechanical bull-riding, one big ass margarita and more live music than you can shake a money-maker stick at! You and your cash need to get yourselves downtown!! After all, a lot of proceeds are going a lot of really worthy places in the whole entertainment process. Guys, "Cuervo Girls" - do we really need to say more? Honestly!
Location: All takes place near City Hall and are within a stone's throw, or short walk of one another. Who needs a gym with all the festival and parade walking available!
