Houston Filmmakers Organization's First Monday Mixer
Sure, Houston may not be the first town that comes to mind when one thinks of the film industry (aside from Jenna Jameson's appearance last month at Rich's---no, not that kind of film), but filmmakers such as Wes Anderson, James Brooks, and Houston native Mel House, have helped have helped put Houston on the map, er, screen.
Every first Monday of the month, the Houston Filmmaker Organization gathers at Fitzgerald's for a monthly mixer of local actors, filmmakers, producers, writers, musicians, and other film & video industry professionals. Admission is always free. And you know our policy on FREE: Two thumbs up!
Tonight's mixer will be spotlighting the 48 Film Project, a contest that takes place in dozens of major cities across the world, where filmmakers are required to create a short film in just 48 hours from start to finish. Check out last year's Houston winner Scripted from Texaswood, produced by the new 48 Hour Project Houston Coordinator Laura Schlecht. Then meet Laura at this month's HFO First Monday Mixer, and network with other filmmakers to build your team for this year's competition. The Houston round takes place on the weekend of May 18-20.
Stay for great drink specials and 80's @ 8:00 retro music all night, presented every Monday by "What is Burlap Monkey?"
