Several Houston restaurants victims of "bicycle bandit"

050807_bicycle.jpgFive restaurants in southwest Houston, near Buffalo Speedway and 59, were burglarized yesterday morning by a thief who police are still searching for, according to KTRK. The crime spree began around 1:45 am yesterday and lasted only a few minutes. It also returned little reward - the unidentified burglar made off with a grand total of zero in cash. The man also made his getaway on a bicycle, which we hear is the preferred means of transportation for environmentally friendly burglars these days.

Luckily, the thief was caught on surveillance camera at Buffalo Grille. Owner Tommy Schillaci described his actions: "He just came in and went for the cash register and took the register and threw it and took it outside and opened it." The thief repeated this at Chez Beignets, Tokyohana, Molina's, and Berry Hill. The restaurant owners did not seem to concerned, only inconvenienced by the damage that he caused. The thief kicked in windows and glass doors to enter the restaurants.

Berry Hill owner Jackie Patane speculates that the man was "probably juiced up on something other than life, so, he'll get caught." Police have dusted for fingerprints and are analyzing the surveillance camera tape for more clues. They hope that someone will be able to identify the thief based on his appearance.
